A dress watch that just uses stainless steel is okay. But
how would you feel after you get one that gives you a good chance to have some expensive
metal on your wrist? Well, to add an additional touch of class, a top-notch
mechanical movement is a good choice. But the choice of dress watches aren’t
small. Well here are some of my favorites I would like to tell you about.
Cartier Tank
Produced in 1917 and first presented for sale in 1922, the
Cartier Tank is an excellent dress watch. And since its beginning, has been
endlessly copied beautifully as replica
watches (you can find some in here).
Chopard L.U.C XP
The L.U.C XP classical from Chopard earned the top prize at
the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve. It ws in the grouping of ‘ultra-thin
watches’ when it was announced in 2006. Being a very slim 6.8mm thick, it is motorized
by a 3mm thick Chopard L.U.C. automatic movement.
Girard-Perregaux
Vintage 1945
Girard-Perregaux is one of the smallest widely known Swiss
watch producers. Yet, their history discloses some fascinating models. For
example, the first watch with a high-frequency movement in 1957. It is exactly
their past that is the foundation for the Vintage 1945 model. It was announced
in 1995 as a honorary tribute to the original Art deco model, and now it’s one
of the icons of the brand.
Grand Seiko
The top-notch watch line Grand Seiko was only existing in
Japan for decades. But, in 2010 they started to export certain models overseas
for the first time. They built by the superior standards by Seiko’s most
skilled craftsmen. So this line has a rich history of excellence.
Master Control by Jaeger-LeCoultre
Motivated by their vintage models from the 1950's and titled
after a harsh series of tests, the Master Control was presented in 1992.
At the end, let me tell you about my taste. Well, the lack
of a seconds hand still bothers me on the AL&S. But their watches are knock
off in terms of class and simple elegance. Also, I find the huge variety of
what AL&S create to be matching to my tastes. And that is something I
cannot say for most brands. But if you are really looking forward to grab
people’s attention at a dinner, I suggest you pick one of the above. And, “Be exclusive” –Just like Henri Nouwen
said.
